Culture is identity of a nation. It depicts that what are the norms, values and general social behaviors, folk tales, symbols, literature, moral, religious values and sayings of a nation? Culture is a learned social behavior that we pass on from generation to generation. Way of life, our gossips, our dresses, our food habits, our language, our heroes and historical places is our culture. No culture can live if it attempts to be exclusive. MAHATMA GANDHI.
ling our identity by adopting other countries culture. Our way of living has been totally changed. We say hello instead of saying salaam, we do not give value of our Islamic culture. We wear European style dresses instead of wearing Shalwar Qameez. Urdu is our national language but we feel awkward to talk in Urdu.
We prefer Shakespeare novels instead of Allama Iqbal’s poetry. While English is our official language instead of Urdu. English medium schooling we are providing but Islamiat, Persian, Pak-studies and Arabic that should basics of our schooling, is going in dark. Those who talk in English considered educated. Eating food with folk is a manner. Indian vulgar songs are very popular in our society.
This all is western and Indian style that we have adopted and we are used to it. Our own identity has been gone in darkness.We have to save our culture, our identity in nations of the world. As world has become a global village we have to prove our identity that we are a different nation. Media has become a greatest reality of the world. But unfortunately, our media is also inspired by the others.
Pakistani culture has a great influenced by the surrounded cultures of India and Middle East. Our youth is taking inspirations from Turkish and Indian dramas. Even in our own dramas and films we are not able to seen our own culture. In result our youth and young children’s are away of our own cultural and social values. By using different media we can save our culture.
We can see Iran who struggled for the saving their culture, even they introduced Islamic dolls Zara and Sara. And a new brand Fatima doll introduced that is not Iranian but Arabic in the counter of barbie doll. Because they don’t want to be influenced their baby girls from barbie doll which wears European style dresses and don’t wear Hijjab. In Iran mostly western TV channels are banned from a long time. Because in a Islamic society where Hijjab is must for the girls they don’t want to show because it encouraging bad veiling in society.
If we want to save our culture then we have to start struggle now. Because if we will not promote our values we will finish. Our culture will die and we will be responsible for that. Actually, it has become a bad habit of our society that we do nothing but just talking about that or highlighting an issue and then wait for the change. Society exists only as a mental concept; in the real world there are only individuals.
OSCAR WILDE said; Change in society never comes like this but it demands something from us, we also have to struggle individually if we want to save our cultural, religious and social values. We have rich values, beliefs and literature. we can make history and save our values for our coming generations otherwise we will be empty handed. It is the time to change ourselves individually. We can do it if we really want to do.
